Rare 1853 Texas Map Found in Sheet Music up for Auction
A rare Texas map from 1853 discovered in a box of sheet music is going up for auction.
According to the Associated Press, the map was discovered in a box of sheet music purchased for $10 at an Indiana estate auction in the 1980s.
The map will be auctioned this weekend at Heritage Auctions in Dallas, and it could fetch up to $7,000.
The auction house says the map belonged to James M. Manning, a surveyor who made significant adjustments to the 1853 edition of the map of Texas. The auction will also include a document officiating Manning’s rank as Corporal in the military.
Talk about a unique find.
