Cats don’t always let on when they feel sick, and you might not notice their bellies are upset until they’re making that awful hacking sound that makes the hairs on the back of feline owners’ necks stand up. Currently, there’s a huge recall on cat food including the brands 9Lives, EverPet, and Special Kitty that could give your pet more than just a simple tummy ache.

WFAA explains that the voluntary recall of some products from the three brands is due to “the low thiamine level in the food can have a significant health impact on cats over time as thiamine deficiency can cause vomiting, salivation, decreased appetite up to neurological problems in advanced cases.” Yahoo points out that at this time, refund information isn’t available, but catching this issue early before your cat suffers from low thiamine levels is of utmost importance. If you’re on the hunt for safe cat food, you can read an expert cat food guide on thepetnow blog.

If you bought any of these brands between December 20th to Tuesday, January 5th, take a look at the official list here from the FDA to ensure that your kitty won’t be eating any food that could make them very ill. The parent company of these products, J.M. Smucker, also requests that you call 1-800-828-9980 or email [email protected].
