“Do it now,” said Arnecke, noting it takes at least three weeks to process new students into the Texas Tech University system.

Texas Tech University registration will take registrations up to January 19.

Both schools encourage students to come in earlier, even before the Christmas break, to allow for processing.

Actual registration for both schools can be done online, but visiting the offices at the Hill Country University Center can help answer many common questions and save time.

The Hill Country University Center is located at 2818 East Hwy 290 in Fredericksburg. Courses are offered both on site and online through the two universities. Information and complete course listings and schedules are available at www.hcucenter.org.

Kristy Kothe can be reached at [email protected], or by calling 254-616-3401. CTC offices will be closed Dec 15-Jan 3.

Anne Arnecke’s direct contact is [email protected], 806-834-3753. TTU offices will be closed Dec 23-Jan 2.

Vereins Kirche Historical Connection

German settlers valued education highly. Serving as Fredericksburg’s first school, Vereins Kirche, still standing today, was one of the first buildings built by Fredericksburg settlers.  In addition, the original settler group in nearby Sisterdale known as the Free Thinkers, fled Germany in an effort to promote intellectual pursuits. Speaking in Latin or Greek, they welcomed everyone interested in their meetings, including large numbers of friendly Comanche Indians.  If these settlers could know the academic growth that the Hill Country University is causing in the Fredericksburg area today, they would be proud. Continue the tradition! Register today!
