Loretta Lynn solidified her place in country music history with this classic hit, “You Ain’t Woman Enough (To Take My Man)”, the title track of her second album.

In 1966, Loretta Lynn released her second studio album and the title track made waves, landing at No. 2 on the Billboard Country Singles chart, her highest single to date. This album was her first that topped the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, and it was mostly due in part to the heated emotion behind each of the 12 songs gracing the album. While it was a combination of covers and her own songs, the title track is still as sassy as ever.

The song has since been covered by a handful of vocalists, from the surprising Grateful Dead to Martina McBride. The indie-rock band Paramore tends to cover this song at their live shows, also, and even recorded it for the tribute albumCoal Miner’s Daughter: A Tribute to Loretta Lynn.

Watch as Lynn herself performs it below and be reminded why she’s such a country music powerhouse and still is at age 84. The First Lady of Country Music still sends chills up our arms whenever we hear hit that first note, no matter what song she’s singing.
