Injured Rescue Rooster Gets its Own Wheelchair to Help It Walk Again
Roo the Rescue Rooster has an interesting story of triumph to share. WFAA says that this poor creature sustained a head injury after being rescued from the California fires. Roo was intimidated by a larger rooster next to him in a cage, so the two fought and Roo ended up with a broken beak and substantial brain swelling that left him unable to walk, stand, nor eat.
Thankfully, the Smith family adopted Roo and knew how to mend him. They ordered a special wheelchair all the way from Australia to give the rooster a chance to learn how to walk again. “He’s able to move around in it, sit upright, and he eats a ton,” WFAA quotes Darcy Smith. “He’s eating a lot of food, drinking a lot of water, and it’s just made all the difference.”
Those who fall in love with little Roo can follow his story on the Funky Chicken Facebook page. When they released a short video right before Thanksgiving showing Roo’s progress so far, viewers were able to see the Smith family’s patience and gentleness in action as they bathed Roo and helped him to take his first steps in the wheelchair. “Love and kindness can mend all,” they write in the video as Roo crows and clucks excitedly in his wheelchair that has changed his life.
