Rick Perry Joins ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Cast
“Dancing with the Stars” just announced its eclectic cast for its 23rd season premiere on ABC on Monday, September 12th. Texans will immediately recognize one contestant in particular. Past presidential candidate and former Texas governor Rick Perry will team up with dancing pro Emma Slater to compete for the coveted trophy.
It may seem like a strange choice, but a politician from Texas has performed on the “Dancing with the Stars” stage before. In season 9, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay competed until he suffered from a foot injury.
This season, Rick Perry joins the likes of rapper Vanilla Ice, football player Calvin Johnson Jr. and Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez. Another Olympian featured in the cast who will surely attract a lot of attention and headlines is Ryan Lochte, the Olympic swimmer who received heavy criticism from his actions during the Rio games.
From politicians to controversial athletes, it seems like this season of “Dancing with the Stars” will be one interesting ride that will have a lot of people tuning in to see who will have a spring in their step and who will fall flat.
