Earlier this month, Robert Earl Keen announced the return of his annual holiday concert series, this year honoring the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. In fine fashion, the Texas singer, songwriter, and performer has set the theme for the 2019 version as “COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS: Lunar Tunes & Looney Times.”
Featuring Keen and his band, the dates for this family holiday fun concert series open in Greenville, South Carolina, and number 15 in total, inclusive of the closing night in Fort Worth, Texas, on December 30, 2019, at Bass Performance Hall. Paying homage to “the space race and all things celestial” these shows promise to cover the classics, fan favorites, and a mix of amazing covers. “This show will turn on the psychedelactic jukebox and light up the tree of tranquility!” Keen noted.

The video above captured a time when Keen and fellow Texas performer Lyle Lovett, “stopped by KUTX’s Studio 1A to share stories and perform a few songs with Jay Trachtenberg and a very excited studio audience.” Keen has been a staunch supporter of all things Lone-Star-State-related and works hard in and out of the limelight for the greater good of our youth as well as our communities. He’s partnered with others in support of the Hill Country Youth Orchestra (HCYO) going on 12 years now, participated in the “Hand-in-Hand” Hurricane Harvey benefit, raising $14 million for storm relief in the state of Texas, and his involvement with the HCYO has resulted in it becoming the only one of its kind to be offered completely for free.
With the upcoming Christmas event series, Keen has concertgoers excited to once again experience the classic “Merry Christmas from the Family,” along with a pleasant mix of wonderful sounds they’ve come to know and expect from the artist and his band. Shinyribs, a Hill-Country-based “swamp-pop-soul supergroup” will be opening the tour. Fans and newcomers alike are sure to have a ball at this unique concert series which is a variety show, of sorts, featuring an abundance of pleasant holiday surprises.
