Woman Rushed to the Hospital Via Helicopter From a Cruise Ship

Texas news crews are reporting that a Corpus Christi resident by the name of Amanda Whitney (aged 23) was picked up via helicopter by the U.S. Coast Guard off of a Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas cruise ship this week after falling ill.

In the video below from KRIS 6 News, one can see how scary and serious a medical evacuation from a cruise ship onto a helicopter appears. Whitney, while already feeling very sick, had to dangle in a bed by herself above the ocean and the platform of the Vision of the Seas as she was lifted up to the safety of the U.S. Coast Guard.

According to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, Whitney recently graduated with a nursing degree from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and was taking a celebratory cruise with her family. About 36 hours into the cruise, her ears and nose began to bleed.

Whitney’s friend who joined her on the cruise, Amanda Eva Rangel, started a GoFundMe page to help offset the medical expenses for her friend. She says that Whitney was in a wreck a few days prior to the trip, but didn’t go to the ER due to not having insurance. Read her full story here.

Whitney is in stable condition but will need to have surgery on her nose.
