On Sunday, December 17, the San Antonio fire department was again put through its paces during a house fire at the home of a family of six. And, not only did they ensure the safety of the family members, but they further went on to rescue the family’s holiday by saving their Christmas presents.

Firefighters were called to the home, located on Scarlet Oak Drive on the east side of the city, on Sunday afternoon. The family had escaped the fire, and while SAFD crews worked to battle flames inside the home, additional firefighters began to rescue the gifts for the children.

The story was shared by KTXS, which also features video footage captured by a neighbor, showing the firefighters carrying gifts outside of the house and assembling them neatly on the front lawn. According to their website, the San Antonio Fire Department’s mission is, “To provide the highest level of professional service to the public by protecting lives, property, and the environment while providing life safety community education. To safely prevent harm through caring service.” It’s quite apparent, in this instance, that they went above and beyond in not only ensuring this family’s safety, and answering the call to contain the fire, but also helping to keep a little bit of Christmas cheer for the family out of what could have been far worse circumstances. Happiest of holidays to all of those involved.
