San Antonio Author Helping Children to Grow Closer to God

When Sandy Loker’s beloved Rottweiler, Sniper, passed away unexpectedly, this hospice nurse found herself grief-stricken. Writing helped to ease Loker’s pain and family members encouraged her to turn her journaling into a book. As often happens, life and insecurities about her writing abilities got in the way but the idea of a children’s book about Sniper (and Loker’s other dog, Wally, a dachshund) was never far from Loker’s thoughts.

Loker has always marveled at the connection between children and animals. Two years after Sniper’s (lovingly referred to as “Snipey”) death, Loker felt a calling to combine her love for all of God’s creations and her interest in reaching children. Shortly after, “Can I Sniff My Way to Heaven?” was conceived.

Loker’s first book tells the story of real-life best friends, Wally and Snipey. In the book, Wally searches for Heaven and the One who gave him all of the things that he loves so much. Wally learns about God’s greatest gift, Jesus, and how he can thank God when he is all tucked in bed at night.

A Timeless Story Stretching Across Generations

The illustrations that accompany the story are beautifully created by artist Larissa Pryor. The story of Wally and Snipey is a charming picture book. This short and sweet adventure is perfect for introducing young children to God’s gifts to the world. Perfect for bedtime, naptime, or snuggle time, the story of God’s love for us set in simple verse will encourage children to thank God for all of their blessings. “Can I Sniff My Way To Heaven?” is a timeless story to be enjoyed by all ages from generation to generation.
