The San Antonio Kennel Club is coming to the new Hill Country Youth Event Center in Kerrville, TX on March 11, 12 and 13, 2016. Dog fanciers of all types recently had a ribbon cutting celebration for the upcoming AKC dog show. The ribbon cutting was sponsored by the Kerrville Chamber of Commerce to promote the first AKC all breed dog show. The three-day event begins on Friday the 11th and runs through the weekend.

The kickoff begins with “Agility”. These amazing canines really know how to show off their talents by running through these courses at breakneck speeds. “Conformation” will be on the 12th and 13th. In this category, appearance and temperament for individual breeds are studied. Since there’s such variability in dogs, there’s no one standard of good conformation. What is good for a lapdog will not be good conformation for a guard dog; good leg structure for a dog that must travel long distances will not be the same as good leg structure for dogs whose conformation requires short bursts of speed. Breed standards are designed solely to describe the breed’s history and purpose, temperament, and appearance.
There are an estimated 750 entries, with over 100 different breeds, all visiting from every corner of the globe. Don’t miss the “Meet the Breeds” section, where visitors will be able to ask owners and handlers about the different species. You’ll be able to get up close and personal with these wonderful pooches. The ever popular vendors section and a pet photographer will be on site the entire time. What a fantastic opportunity to get a one-of-a kind picture of you with your fur baby.

Seeing the working breeds, sporting dogs, hounds, toys and terriers of all types will make you have a warm fuzzy feeling all over. They’re wagging their tails in excitement for the new chamber members. SAKC is serious about dogs, and they want you to be too. Stay tuned, as they will help launch a Kerr County Kennel Club soon. It’s a fun event for the entire family, and don’t forget, you’re welcome to bring Fido with you!
