San Antonio Woman Wins $1 Million for Lay’s Potato Chip Flavor
In August, we learned that Ellen Sarem of San Antonio, Texas was in the running for the Lay’s “Do Us A Flavor” contest for her submission of the idea of taco-flavored chips. Lay’s released the Crispy Taco flavor along with Fried Green Tomato and Everything Bagel with Cream Cheese and allowed Americans to vote on which new flavor they liked the best. Since the love for tacos runs deep for anyone with decent taste buds, Sarem won! And KENS 5 reports that along with unique bragging rights, she’s taking home $1 million.
When she was presented with the big check, Sarem told the news, “My heart was beating superfast. I was super anxious. Like I said, I don’t remember even walking up there, but it was incredible.” The new mother of a one-year-old will use the money to take a nice honeymoon after her wedding in the spring and to buy a bigger home in her beloved San Antonio.
The taco chips have garnered high praise. Back in July, AV Club wrote, “How do you make chips taste like lettuce? It’s got that bright, refreshing, almost watery taste (but not texture!) that shredded iceberg lettuce brings to a taco. It’s insane for a chip that mostly looks like it’s covered in plain taco seasoning to be so dense in flavor.”
