San Antonio, Spanish for Saint Anthony, is the 7th most populated city in America. It is also the 2nd most populated city in Texas. San Antonio, Texas is an extremely popular tourist destination and has been referred to as every Texan’s favorite city. San Antonio’s weather is partly tropical. July-September has the most rain and humidity. The fall and Spring months have the best weather.
The city of San Antonio claims to be the creator of the delicious stew we call Chili. They also claim to be the birthplace of Cheetos, Davids Pace Picante Sauce, and Fritos. It sound as if San Antonio is the mastermind behind some of the best brands known throughout the world.
According to the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau, San Antonio is visited by 26 million tourists a year. San Antonio is famous for their many attractions in the area. Tourists can visit the Alamo, the beautiful River walk, the infamous SeaWorld, Spanish missions, and so many other tourist and historical sites. San Antonio is home to the San Antonio Spurs, the four-time NBA Champions. San Antonio also has one of the largest annual Stock Show & Rodeo’s in the country.
San Antonio is home to a huge military presence including several forts and military bases. Lackland Air Force base is in this area and is home to a well-known medical research facility. Another army post is Fort Sam Houston, which is extremely unique. It serves an active military installation and also contains some of the oldest structures on an army post. Randolph Air Force Base is headquarters to air education and training command. These three army bases and forts are just a few in the city.
Texas’ top tourist attraction, the Alamo, is located in Downtown San Antonio. The Alamo mission is why San Antonio is often called the Alamo City. This is an extremely big attraction to all of Texas Hill Country and when “the Alamo” is mentioned, locals go crazy! It is a must- see attraction while in San Antonio, just ask any resident! The second biggest attraction in San Antonio is the River Walk. The third best attraction to the San Antonio area is Sea World, which is located 16 miles west of Downtown in the city’s Westover Hills district. Two other attractions that are worth visiting is Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Morgan’s Wonderland (a theme park special needs children).
Downtown San Antonio is flowing with culture and excitement. Multiple popular attractions lie in this area including La Villita, The Spanish Governor’s Palace, El Mercado, and the Cathedral of San Fernando. Your jaw will drop at the site of the Cathedral of San Fernando. The beautifully aged architecture looks astonishing lit up at night. San Antonio also features calvary artifacts and exhibits at their San Antonio Cavalry Museum.
