San Marcos is the hub for everything because it is in the prime location between Austin and San Antonio. San Marcos was given the name San Marvelous because of the natural beauty. Both Texas State University and Meadows Center Glass- bottom boat tours (also known as the Aquarena Center) are located within the city of San Marcos.

San Marcos, Texas was labeled as one of the best places to raise your kids. It is also the fastest-growing city in the United States. Several sources has listed San Marcos as one of the most exciting places to live. It is an extremely popular area for recreation, especially tubing, canoeing, swimming, and fishing.

Each year on the first Saturday in June, the Texas Water Safari starts. The Texas Water Safari is a Canoe Race that does not offer a prize to the winner. People flock to this race to win for pure bragging rights. A Walk in the Park is a 1200+ acre park with hiking and biking trails, children’s park, skate park, dog park, and public riverfront access.

The downtown area, surrounding the courthouse, is home to many bars, restaurants, boutiques, and music venues. The attractions make San Marcos a leading entertainment destination. The legendary Texas Music Theater hosted the Lone Star Music awards in the years 2011- 2013.

The Summer in the Park concert series has been hosted by the San Marcos Performing Arts Commission and the San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department for more than 20 years. This event is put on at a live outdoor venue every Thursday night (June-August), where live music is hosted. Contributing to the music scene in San Marcos, Texas State University hosts the Hill Country Jazz Festival and Eddie Durham Celebration annually. KTSW, the university’s radio station, also holds an annual festival called MR Fest. “MR” is an acronym “My Radio” but is pronounced “mister.” In 2012, local entrepreneurs began hosting an ongoing outdoor concert series called Foodstock (a play on Woodstock) to benefit the Hays County Food Bank.

There were several movies and television shows that were filmed in this area, one of which was Pirhana. In June 2006, The View named the San Marcos Outlets as the third-best place to shop in the world. The outlet includes over 140 luxury and brand name outlet stores; some of which included Neiman Marcus Last Call, Saks Fifth Avenue off 5th, Vera Bradley outlet, Victoria’s Secret outlet, and many more. Another outlet mall is the Tanger Outlets, which includes over 100 stores with popular brands. Some of these brands include American Eagle Outfitters, LOFT outlet, Crocs, and other great stores.
