Established in 1955, this 115-acre oasis situated approximately a half-hour’s drive northwest out of Austin has since become a favorite on the Colorado River, offering swimming in the natural springs, followed by camping in the beautiful Texas Hill Country.

These historic natural springs are listed on the National Registry of Historical Sites and have been privately owned by their namesake family for more than half a century. Open year-round (sorry, pets aren’t allowed) there are 32 natural springs in total to look at or enjoy. There is no lifeguard on duty, however, so safety is your own priority while enjoying this serene setting, and be advised that there’s a fee to enter and it’s strictly on a cash basis (no plastic). The admission has been posted as $8 for adults, $5 for kids ages 4-11, and free for kids under 4. Camping is at a rate of $15 per adult, $10 per child ages 4-11, and $15 for an RV spot–which is actually quite amazing as far as camping prices go.

Krause Springs opened for spring hours February 16, so the timing is perfect for visiting their websites and planning ahead. They provide answers to FAQ’s on their site to prepare you in advance, but nothing will really prepare you for the true beauty of it all. The springs naturally feed a man-made pool as well as a natural pool which flows into Lake Travis and is tucked away in a forested area. There’s also a butterfly garden complete with charming chimes and trickling fountains. Krause Springs is really a sight for sore eyes, and a true gem of Spicewood, and the Texas Hill Country.
