Many rejoiced when they heard the news that a mini-series about the beloved singer Selena’s life was going to start filming. The production was to be based on Chris Perez’s book titled “To Selena With Love.” But plans halted on Friday when the singer’s father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., filed a law suit against the project.

According to the Caller-Times, Quintanilla specifically filed the suit against “Endemol Latino; Chris Perez, Selena’s widower; and Blue Mariachi, the production company of Perez and Carltio Miranda.” In the lawsuit, he stated that “To Selena With Love” was an unauthorized book since all authorized material must pass through the Quintanilla family. It also states that in 1995 Perez “expressly agreed that he would not exploit any of the Entertainment Properties in any manner or medium, including, without limitation, by way of a book, television series, movie, or any other motion picture medium,” KSAT quotes.

Hopefully everything can be resolved in a way that properly honors the late Tejano star and satisfies her incredibly loyal fan base. Earlier this year, MAC cosmetics released a line of makeup inspired by what was inside Selena’s own make-up bag, and in 2017, she will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
