A Shooter is Taking Aim at Cars on DFW Highway

By  |

CBS DFW recently posted a warning for citizens of the cities of Anna and Melissa in Collin County who drive along Highway 5. A shooter, possibly hiding in nearby trees, is taking aim at vehicles.

Police have received four reports so far, and Anna Police Department Lieutenant Jeff Caponera is asking people to check their cars. The popping sound they may have assumed came was a rock from nearby construction might have actually been a bullet.

Since no one has been injured so far, they assume the bullets are “pellet or small caliber.” But that doesn’t mean someone will not receive injuries in the future from the bullets or from swerving in their cars.

Driver Clint Bailey told CBS DFW, “There’s nothing you really can do then just watch out.” Another citizen they interviewed, Johnny Sutton, said “I’m not going to sit around and wait for something bad to happen. I’m going to assume when I get up in the morning it’s going to be alright.”

Even though it’s a dangerous situation, Texans know their lives must go on, and they refuse to give in to fear. They all hope that police are able to find the shooter as soon as possible so the correct measures can be taken to ensure these senseless occurrences come to a complete stop.
