Six Flags Over Texas Adds New Attractions: Buckle Up for Adventure

By  |

Six Flags Over Texas recently celebrated its 60th anniversary at the Arlington flagship theme park. The park doesn’t dwell long on its celebrated past, though, but is looking ahead to next year. Honoring their title as the “Thrill Capital of Texas,” Six Flags announced several exciting new attractions for 2022.

Pirates of Speelunker Cave is a state-of-the-art attraction that puts guests right in the midst of a pirate treasure hunt. The hunt is thwarted, though, by the cave’s resident Speelunker. The new attraction is scheduled to open early in 2022. Aquaman: Power Wave, a thrilling new water-coaster, will also debut next season.

“As the world’s first regional theme park, Six Flags Over Texas has built a solid reputation of providing innovative thrills and lifelong memories for generations of families,” said SFOT Park President Ron McKenzie. “What better way to celebrate our park’s 60th anniversary than by announcing a brand-new attraction that pays homage to our past and launches us into the future,” added McKenzie.

A new entry plaza welcomes adventurers to the Pirates of Speelunker Cave, with coastal themes and offering an open vantage point of the ride’s first descent into the cave. Riders on board their six-passenger boat are greeted with 17 brand-new scenes, combining state-of-the-art cinematic projections with immersive sets and animatronics.

A re-imagining of one of the park’s first attractions, The Cave, (1964 until 1991), Pirates of Speelunker Cave replaces Yosemite Sam and the Gold River Adventure. The Cave featured original characters called Speelunkers, created exclusively for SFOT.

Six Flags Over Texas, in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, on behalf of DC, debuts the next generation in water coaster thrill rides.

Aquaman: Power Wave is the park’s 15th coaster and the first-of-its-kind in North America. Riders are launched backward and forwards on straight up, colossal 148 feet twin-track towers. Then sent plunging straight down, screaming across more than 700 feet of track before hurtling at 63 miles per hour toward the ultimate massive splash down.

Not for the faint of heart, Aquaman is scheduled to open the summer of 2022.
