Starbucks Opens Concept Store in Underserved Community in Dallas

The Financial says that the new Dallas and Trenton, NJ Starbucks locations are part of the company’s goal to focus on helping 15 underserved communities this year. “Starbucks plans to work with local women- and minority owned contractors for the construction of its upcoming Red Bird store,” they write. And the company has further plans to create more opportunities for locals once the store is built.

WFAA states that locals are hoping that the revitalization of Red Bird brings economic development and jobs for people who live in the area. Starbucks’s conceptual location should help to meet this goal by giving on-site job training to groups of young people with detailed training sessions to prepare them for the workforce. In addition to functioning as a unique training facility, the southern Dallas store will sell locally made products from Dallas minority business owners, as well.

Red Bird owner Peter Brodsky says he’s excited about the future. “This community has been falsely branded as universally poor, and universally dangerous. And you and I know that that’s not true. It’s solidly middle class and there are some well to do areas,” he told the WFAA.

This special Starbucks will be the first concept store of its kind in Texas.
