Norma Strait is George’s queen. They grew up together in the small South Texas town of Pearsall. When they were both 19 years old, they traveled the 100 miles to Mexico and eloped on December 4, 1971, followed by an official church wedding a few weeks later. Then George joined the United States Army, and he and Norma traveled to Hawaii; while there, he began a U.S. Army band called Rambling Country. Meanwhile, Norma gave birth to their first child, Jenifer, on Oct. 6, 1972. Tragically, their daughter was killed in a San Marcos car accident in 1986. George and Norma have since created the Jenifer Lynn Strait Foundation, which supports San Antonio area children’s charities in Jenifer’s memory.

Born May 14, 1981, their son is named after his father, but he usually goes by “Bubba.” A graduate of Texas A&M University in College Station, Bubba worked as a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) team roper. Now married to Tamara Shipman, Bubba and his wife live in the Texas Hill Country and make a home for their children, George Harvey Strait III, aka “Harvey” and Jilliann Louise Strait, who are eight and three years old respectively. Tamara has a lucrative career in real estate and is a dedicated philanthropist to organizations such as the Methodist Hospital’s Children’s Center, Wish For Our Heroes, and Troops First Foundation.
