When it comes to prom, “the dress” is of utmost importance. According to statistics written in The Guardian in 2015, parents planned to spend $919 on average for prom night (including outfit, dinner, transportation and ticket cost), and the dress is what every teen knows is at the epicenter of perfect photos and memories.

Since long, fitted dresses covered in sequins and embellishments usually have a high price tag, a senior at Dayton High School (outside of Houston) started a donation area to make sure every teen could attend prom with a beautiful dress. Chevi Breaux says her dad came up with the idea for a donation station for prom dresses, but she executed the plan by setting up a huge rack in the school library where students could bring their lightly used (or unworn) formal dresses. Breaux herself brought her and her sisters’ bridesmaids dresses.

Now, the inventory has grown and students are thrilled to look through the rack of around 100 dresses in an array of colors. “They’re amazed. There’s so many options, and that someone’s going to bring the dress up there and let them use it for the night,” Breaux told Click2Houston.
