Keith Urban’s country music success has been a whirlwind with a stockpile of albums and more than 30 chart-topping hit singles; but long before the Grammy-winning artist ever made his mark in the states, he put his own spin on Dolly Parton’s 1977 hit “Applejack”.
Want proof? On an Aussie-based TV episode of Reg Lindsay’s Country Homestead, the “John Cougar, John Deer, John 3:16” singer showed off his chops onstage in front of a live audience and a festive backdrop occupied by hay bails.
Dressed up in a minty green and white ensemble and accompanied by a backup band, Urban belted out the country classic.
Remarkably, Dolly caught glimpse of the star’s rare footage and tweeted out to her followers.
Both Urban and Parton started singing and playing guitar at a very young age. As a budding boy, the country crooner learned to master his guitar-slingin’ skills by performing on variety shows like New Faces and Pot of Gold. Fortunately for him, that signature frosty locks look was already part of the package. As for the blonde bombshell, she tapped into the entertainment business at the tender age of 10 years old on the Cass Walker Radio Show in Tennessee.
Although both megastars’ musical shelf lives have been long-lived, neither of them intend to stop anytime soon. The American Idol judge is expected to release a new album, although there’s no scheduled release date or album title at this time, and Country Music Hall of Fame-r Parton is currently in the midst of working on NBC TV film, Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors.
