6-Year-Old Texan with Cerebral Palsy Competes in Triathlon

Most adults would shy away from ever attempting a triathlon, but 6-year-old Julian Brent isn’t intimidated by such a task even though she has cerebral palsy. She asked her mom, triathlete Thayleigh Brent, if she could compete in the CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Rose City Triathlon over the weekend in Lake Tyler.

Thayleigh explained to KTRE that her daughter has overcome quite a bit in her short life. She said, “A year ago Julian had surgery that forced her to learn how to sit and stand and walk all over again, and this is a real accomplishment to show how far she’s come.”

Julian didn’t focus on what some may see as her limitations; she mainly focused on the excitement of the race. She told KTRE, “Everyone is going to be out there cheering and doing awesome things…I’m a little freaked-out that I might lose or I might win, nobody knows.”

Julian’s determination and willingness to take on whatever the race results might be is inspiring to athletes of any age. The ambitious girl made an impact before she even started the race. Check out the video below to see her triumphant finish!
