Like the rest of the country, Texans are ready and eager to go somewhere. That’s why many of us (including my husband and I) are heading for the Gulf Coast. Its miles of sandy beaches offer a great getaway and stress reliever after months in quarantine.

Vacation rental site HomeToGo recently ranked five Texas beaches as being among the most affordable beaches in the U.S. Their search engine compared the costs of beachside parking, lunch, one beer, sunscreen, and a one-night stay near the beach.

North Beach in Corpus Christi emerged as the #1 slot on the U.S. list. A trip to that beach costs $88.36. Some of the highlights of North Beach are its one and a half-mile sandy beach, two fishing jetties, a Dolphin Park playground, and a concrete walkway. Local attractions like Fajitaville’s Ferris wheel, the Texas State Aquarium, and the USS Lexington Museum.

Corpus Christi Convention & Visitors Bureau site says, “Whether you are looking for a place to eat and grab drinks, participate in a family-friendly experience, or immerse yourself in Coastal Bend history, North Beach has something for you.”

Four other Texas beaches appear on their Most Affordable Beach list.

10. Rockport Beach, $109.88
13. Galveston Island, East Beach, $113.67
30. Port Aransas, $124.08
33. South Padre Island, $124.74

Sandy Jumper, VP Marketing for Rockport-Fulton Chamber, says they are once again in the running for Best Coastal Small Town in the USA Today Poll. Please follow this link to vote for Rockport, Texas. They made it to #2 Best Coastal Small Town in the USA Today Poll for 2019, so let’s help them move up to #1. Vote here!

From their website: “Across the Aransas Bay from Corpus Christi, the streets of Rockport are lined with art galleries – the town claims to have the highest percentage of artists in Texas. The pedestrian-friendly downtown is filled with shops and restaurants, and more often than not, accommodation takes the form of old fashioned motel courts. Windswept oak trees and large swathes of protected coastal wetlands make this section of the Texas Gulf Coast one of the loveliest.”

As domestic travel continues to outpace overseas trips, Airbnb says that more nights were booked for U.S. listings between May 17-June 3 than during that same period in 2019. Top destinations range from the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee to Port Aransas in Texas.
