In New List, Texas Falls in 30th Place for ‘Most Patriotic State’

A new list released in time for Independence Day by WalletHub, a site that helps Americans get their credit scores and learn how to improve their credit, says that Texas isn’t as patriotic as many people would assume. Their list ranks all of the states by “13 key indicators of patriotism” that include veterans and military personnel living in there, amount of people who voted in the presidential election, and number of hours in which residents volunteer. This criteria brings Virginia to number one, New Jersey to number 50, and Texas in the bottom middle section at number 30.

If the low ranking of Texas has you puzzled, you’re not alone. Like LoneStar 99.5FM says, “Texas is really patriotic. Tons of American spirit, many military and veterans, tons of flags everywhere, a great turn out for our many patriotic holidays, and so much more! So what’s going on?”

The Lone Star State ranks highly in terms of “Military Engagement” where we fall in 13th place, but we don’t fare well with “Civic Engagement,” where we rank 47th. It looks like more Texans need to take the time to vote. (We rank 46th in the lowest number of adults to vote in the 2016 election.) And perhaps add more volunteer time to our calendars!
