Decorating cakes is a serious business that’s spawned specialty bakeries, classes, and even reality TV shows like “Ace of Cakes” and “Cake Boss.” Click2Houston.com recently highlighted one of Houston’s own cake decorating talents – a 14-year-old boy named Andrew Nichols.

Once Andrew started baking when he was 9, he knew he’d found his calling. “I went onto YouTube and stuff and learned classes and I went to Wilton class. A two-week Wilton class where I learned how to sculpt flowers and characters and work with fondant and stuff like that,” Andrew told the news.

Andrew now takes special orders for friends and family for his homemade cakes. He spends about 10 hours on each piece! He says that instead of spending time playing video games, he prefers to create tasty artwork in the kitchen.

In honor of his feature on KPRC, Andrew decorated a blue cake with the station’s logo (as seen on his Instagram page). Scrolling through his social media page shows how committed and talented he is, working with different techniques for a number of special events. Who knew a 14-year-old could manage to replicate a cigar box out of sugar, flour, and fondant? Continue to follow Andrew’s sweet journey here.
