A camera recently captured one Texas Chick-fil-A employee in an act of kindness. Jessica Gomez was at a food court in a Corpus Christi shopping mall when she witnessed a young Chick-fil-A employee sit down and help an older, disabled customer eat his meal. The display of kindness was truly touching, and Gomez wanted the world to know. From a distance, Gomez snapped a photo that has since gone viral.

The Chick-fil-A employee was 19-year-old Ashley Guzman. She was already well into her six-hour shift and at the end of the lunch rush when a disabled gentleman named Arturo Ramirez showed up. The man is regular at the mall’s food court, but shoppers say they’ve never seen anyone help him like Guzman.

“While eating at the mall with my family,” Gomez wrote on social media, “I saw this lovely girl help this man out. I’ve seen this man several times here by himself. This employee sat with him and fed him his food. She went above and beyond. The times I’ve been here everyone just leaves him. She cut his food into pieces and went back several times to get him whatever he needed. May God bless this woman.”

After getting Ramirez his meal, Guzman chose to sit with him and keep him company. Guzman had no idea her act of kindness was being watched. When the photo taken by Gomez went viral, Guzman’s reaction was surprise, at first, then nervousness as more and more people viewed the image. She wondered why, “out of everybody,” she had been chosen as an example of someone doing a good deed.

Ramirez’s brother told local media that the family is grateful for what Guzman did. Guzman’s boss at Chick-fil-A was also pleased. The company makes a point to encourage “acts of intentional kindness” by their employees, but Guzman was clearly acting from the heart.

Ashley Guzman told kiiitv.com, “It makes me feel good that I can have a connection with somebody and make their day a little bit better.” As this young woman’s act of kindness is witnessed by thousands around the globe, via the internet, we can only hope more people will follow her example.
