Disaster Strikes at Texas Church’s Chicken
On Thursday, three employees of a Livingston, Texas Church’s Chicken were injured after the floor collapsed in the kitchen area. All of them were severely burned by the hot grease from the fryer that tipped once the floor fell.
One of the employees was trapped in a crevice formed by the broken flooring. A customer jumped over the counter to help her as her skin was burning from the grease.
Employee Erica Acevado, 26, was one of the people who endured this awful ordeal. Working at Church’s Chicken was Acevado’s second job that she took on as a single mother hoping to make some extra money. KPRC spoke with her sister, Angela Galan. Galan said that Acevado has burns over 50% of her body. “She’s gonna need skin grafts. They’ve done surgeries, but she has several more to go,” Galan stated.
Of course, Acevado’s family is incredibly upset about the incident. They also can’t help but feel suspicious that the collapse could have been prevented from taking place. Thankfully, the ordeal is under investigation with the involvement of OSHA. One can only imagine how confusing and terrifying the situation must have been for these employees.
