Let’s Review Some of Texas’ Often Forgotten Traffic Laws

A while back, the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office posted an important traffic law that Texans seem to forget, or they never learned in the first place. On Facebook, they wrote that drivers are confused when it comes to left-hand turns at medians, and the rule depends on what kind of median the driver encounters. “Wide crossings require a crisscross and you turn through normal medians just as you do when turning at an intersection: passenger door to passenger door,” they write. The image above will make it more clear. Those with additional questions can see the TXDOT website that thoroughly explains what to do at divided highway intersections and crossovers. Plus, here’s a link to a handy guide to some laws that Texas motorists should know.

Chron.com picked up the traffic rules story, as well, backing up the Sheriff’s Office post by saying, “When it comes to road rules, it seems some people just make their own.” They also added a few other laws that many drivers should review. For example, drivers should try to avoid crossing over solid white lines, but crossing over a double white line is prohibited. Drivers should stay to the right unless they are passing, and if someone is trying to pass, slow down to let them do so. Also, drivers must not follow closer than 500 feet when they’re behind an ambulance or a fire truck.
