Honoring the memory of a fallen fellow firefighter, a Houston firefighter made a surprise presentation to the San Antonio Fire Department on Saturday, August 19. Tyler Hooper of Station 6 in Houston, Texas made a custom table in memory of Scott Deem, a fallen San Antonio firefighter who lost his life in May of this year while searching for any possible survivors trapped by flames in a shopping center fire.

In a report by ABC 13, Hooper explained that although he didn’t work directly with Deem, the firefighter family always shares the cares, hopes, and suffering that each of their departments holds close to the chest. Deem was remembered as a family man and dedicated firefighter when condolences poured in upon the word of his passing this spring.

Hooper explained, “It hits all of us pretty hard, especially when its local in Texas. We all try to step up and do what we can for the family and the members of that department that lost somebody.” Taking him approximately a week to design and build, Hooper noted that other Houston Fire Department stations had contributed $1,200 for the cost of the project.
