Where Would Texas Rank in the Olympics?

By  |

As Texans, when we start pondering where Texas would rank in the world as its own nation, we look at things like natural resources, money, size, and population. However, we tend to overlook one tiny little topic: the Olympics. Naturally, Texas would compete, but where would we stand?

According to Chron.com, Texas would place eighth in the world for total number of medals won, tying with Germany and France. But, let’s take a look at just the gold medals Texas Olympians won: 26. That’s a lot of gold medals and would surpass even the United States in the amount of gold brought home after you subtract Texas’ medals from the U.S. grand total of 46 gold medals. Of course, some of those medals were basketball team medals, but who are we kidding? Us Texan know we could pull together a men’s and women’s basketball team that will soar past any other team in the world. Wait…we already have. Multiple times.

So, where would Texas place in the gold medal arena? According to Chron.com, third. Unless you give us those team medals, then it’s second. This is just one more reason why Texas rocks.
