The award for grandchild (and human being) of the year goes to Stefun Darts. The 24-year-old spent years working and living on a shoestring budget in order to pay off his grandparents’ mortgage. On Easter, the college student surprised his grandparents by giving them the good new. Their reactions are truly priceless.
Not only is Darts a Texas college student, but he also works full time. As if that’s not enough, he runs a non-profit, Caring Heart Youth, that mentors and empowers youth.
In a heartwarming post on Darts’ Facebook, he said, “I promised God in the second grade I would pay off you guys house and help you retire. A promise I would never break.”
Darts was so dedicated to getting his grandparents’ mortgage paid off that he lived on microwave pizzas and skipped parties for several years until he could save the $15,000. His goal was to see his grandparents own their own home, and he achieved it.
“I couldn’t stand you going to work at night, some nights I didn’t even sleep knowing it shouldn’t be like this,” Darts’ explained on Facebook. “Never have I wrote a check wanting this to be the first one.”
The surprises didn’t end there, though. He also saved enough money to send them on a vacation to the Bahamas.
