A teenager is reportedly listed in critical condition following an incident in which he was sucked into a drain at a water park in Crystal Beach, Texas on Saturday, August 10, 2019. Local media stated that the incident occurred at the Fun Town Water Park, after which it was found that Caden Strimple, the teen in question, had suffered extreme internal injuries.

Kdvr.com quoted Galveston County Sheriff Henry Troschessett, “From my understanding, it might have been on a dare.” He further added, “He’s a large, 14-year-old, my size, 5-foot-11, and he picked (the grate to the drain) up, and when he did that, he slipped into the intake.” Following the incident, a water park employee shut off the pipes. Although the teen was able to get out, his injuries have resulted in his critical listing. The teen regained consciousness after he was freed.

According to reports by KHOU, Troschessett noted, “He told his dad, ‘I love you, sorry it happened.’ He was able to stand up. They walked him away from the area to the gurney to get into the ambulance.” Strimple has reportedly been placed into a medically induced coma. He is being cared for in Galveston, at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Local media have reported that, according to the Texas Department of Insurance, the inspection for Fun Town Water Park expired back in May. The park’s owner identified his heartfelt concern for the family on Thursday, August 15, 2019, however the company couldn’t comment. In the meantime, the Galveston County Sheriff’s office posted, “Pray with us for a speedy recovery for this young man,” on their Facebook page. For those wanting to share support for the family, a GoFundMe account has been established at the link available here. The story is a scary reminder for Texans to stay safe around the water.
