Making any top 25 list in America is a great feat. Making the list of “25 of The Happiest Small Towns in America” is stellar! And, Texas has of course done that, with Boerne, here in the Texas Hill Country, making the House Beautiful magazine’s 25th spot in the compilation.

You can do everything you want to turn your home base into all things “zen.” Pick the most calming paint color, use Feng Shui in your rooms, and play soothing sounds of blue whales calling out to each other while you sip your morning java. But ultimately, the moment you step outside your door, the real test begins! The towns that made this list compiled by House Beautiful have several key elements to them that you may take note of. Many have water features (oceans, rivers, lakes, etc.,) and some have nothing but country living in mind, thereby reducing the stress of their residents. But, what did Boerne bring to the table that put Texas on the map?

The caption by House Beautiful on what makes Boerne what it is reads as follows: “This isn’t your average Texas town. After all, it features a mild climate (seriously), which makes fishing, golfing and other outdoor activities that much more enjoyable…” We’re betting the healthy dose of Vitamin D that can be had from soaking up the Texas sun with all of that activity has something to do with the level of happiness that residents of this Hill Country gem can feel. Or, could it simply be that there’s something to living in that neck of the woods that puts a twinkle in your eye and a skip in your step?
