In a compilation of travel destinations kids need to see in Texas, the Houston Chronicle put together a list of what it felt were 40 places that were must-sees before growing up. Including travel destinations such as Hamilton Pool and wildflowers in the Texas Hill Country to amazing family-oriented locales, this list is considerably comprehensive.

Writer Alison Medley compiled the article for the Chronicle, which entails everything from Lone Star State natural beauty to places of great history. She incorporated the “…natural allure and the most picturesque spots,” that would entice even the staunchest of introverted kids to want to get out and explore. And adults who were born and raised in this beautiful state can all agree they have their own great sites they wish they could share with their children to impress upon them just how extremely lucky we are to live here.

Sharing such spots as “…beautiful hidden gems, like the Guadalupe River and Barton Springs,” Medley has assembled a list of Texas travel destinations that almost speaks to nostalgia more than anything. Fond remembrances of experiences we’ve all had, at one time or another, growing up here in Texas will spark a bit of joy from reading this article, if nothing else. A visit to the Alamo, a dunk in Balmorhea Pool, the view from Palo Duro State Park, and a stop at Johnson Space Center have all made the list for kids to see and experience. Those looking for culture, history, or adventure won’t be let down by this list. But there may even be a few places readers feel were left out (owing to their own experiences, that is).
