The Transgender Bathroom Issue: What Are Your Thoughts?

By  |

By far one of the hottest debates in America at the moment, the transgender bathroom issue, is causing a lot of controversy. So, what’s the big deal?

Some believe the law is awful, opening up opportunities for pedophiles and sex offenders to prey on women and children. Others believe that it is no big deal; transgender people make up 0.3% of the population, and as a nation, we need to be more open minded. Both opinions are valid, but is the public rushing into a panic over the issue or are we being too laid back about it all? There are two sides of the coin here.

YouTube user TruckDaily posted this video in opposition to the new law. To be quite honest, he is peeved! His strong opposition of transgender bathrooms is his opinion. He obviously feels quite strongly about it and, as a father of four children, has some worries.

However, many believe most of the nation is overreacting.

A Facebook user who wishes to remain anonymous commented, “I think all bathrooms should be unisex, get rid of disgusting smelly urinals and have only stalls so it is more private for everyone. Transgender doesn’t mean sex offender, it doesn’t even mean homosexual, and there wouldn’t be any more to worry about than there already is. People are just scared of things they do not understand.”

Another valid argument. Are people in opposition just scared because they don’t understand? Possibly. We have always needed to worry about the safety of our children regardless of which bathroom they to go to. It is why mothers take their little boys into the ladies room with them and vice versa for fathers. It is the world we live in today, unfortunately.
