This particular recipe is shared from a cookbook based on church suppers, which makes sense since this recipe can easily feed a congregation of hungry cake-lovers.

Buttermilk is a key ingredient in this cake, and using regular milk just won’t taste the same. Buttermilk adds a tangy, yet full flavor to the batter of the cake that makes it slightly heavier, too.
