This Texas Deputy’s Body Cam Captured an Amazing Sight
In Panola County, one Texas deputy was out on patrol when he got caught in a storm. His body cam captured it all.
While assisting a motorist around 8 p.m. at night, a severe storm descended upon this officer. Soon, lightning struck. He didn’t think anything of it until reviewing his body cam footage later, when a still image caught the spectacular moment on camera perfectly.
The storms that ravaged Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana in the middle of April were responsible for producing this cell. You can see it lighting up whatever it was that it made contact with in this incredible photo.
The photo has gone viral and the original post by Panola County Texas Sheriff’s Office has gotten 300 shares and 700 likes. Seeing the force of this lightning strike really drives home how deadly lightning can be, though we often focus on hail or tornadoes when it comes to thunderstorms.
It’s important to remember that if you can hear thunder, you are within distance of being struck by lightning and should seek cover immediately. Mother Nature is no joke, and she often means business.
Maybe one day you’ll catch an image like this on your own camera, but don’t put yourself in harm’s way to do so. Storm chasing is not a profession for the faint of heart!
