New Braunfels, TX., July 22nd 2015— Three bouncing baby mountain lions are making their debut at Animal World & Snake Farm Zoo. Remy and Rory, the two female kittens, and their brother Roscoe were born on June 18th to happy, healthy parents. This is the first litter for Sara and Edward, the zoo’s adult North American mountain lions.

“The babies are getting pretty adventurous,” says zookeeper Jessica Darby. “They’re very playful and active and are each starting to develop personalities of their own. Remy’s on the timid side, but Rory and Roscoe are not shy.

Though the cubs are not yet on exhibit, the public will be able to see them daily from 10-10:30am in the nursery as well as at 2:00pm during an interactive showing.

The mountain lion- also referred to as cougar, puma or panther— holds the Guinness World Record for the most number of names, including 40 different names in the English language.

Due to the destruction of their natural habitat and food source, the Eastern mountain lion has been recently declared an extinct species. The Florida mountain lion is near extinct as well (with less than 100 animals remaining in the wild). Though the North American mountain lion, a native Texas species, is not yet listed as an endangered animal, protection and conservation is imperative in order to prevent a similar outcome.
