Duncan helped the San Antonio Spurs win five NBA championship titles since he joined the team in 1997. Tim Duncan is not only a five time title winner but also two-time MVP, three-time Finals MVP and 15 times All-Star. “He along with Gregg Popovich, transformed the small-market San Antonio Spurs into a powerhouse of a franchise, a team, and organization that other players in professional sport have looked to emulate for years.” (www.sbnation.com). Tim Duncan has become a national legend. “His understated selflessness made him the ultimate teammate.” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement. “For two decades Tim represented the Spurs, the city of San Antonio, and the league with passion and class. “
After being selected the number 1 draft pick in 1997, the Spurs would never be the same again. Now five banners hang in the AT&T Center not far from Duncan’s No. 21. Tim Duncan will certainly be missed by many NBA fans, especially Spurs fans! Tim Duncan, if you are reading this, thanks for a great 19 years!
