AAA to Offer Free ‘Tipsy Tow’ Service Again This Year on NYE

By  |

There’s no harm in starting the New Year off with a couple of cocktails to celebrate the end of a tough year and the start of a fresh one. But starting 2018 off by getting behind the wheel after knocking back a few drinks shouldn’t even cross anyone’s mind. In addition to the typical way to get rides home, like from a designated driver, a cab, or a service like Lyft, this New Years Eve, there’s also AAA’s free Tipsy Tow.

KFDM.com writes that AAA offers their Tipsy Tow service again this year as a last resort to people who find themselves stranded with their car on NYE. “The service will be available statewide from 6:00 p.m. on Sun. December 31, 2017 through 6:00 a.m. on Mon., January 1, 2018,” the news explains. Basically, passengers, bartenders, party hosts, or a driver who knows they shouldn’t be behind the wheel can call 1-800-222-4357 (1-800-AAA-HELP) to secure a tow home for up to 10 miles away. (After 10 miles, the driver will need to pay for the service.)

Snopes.com warns that while news of Tipsy Tow spreads across the U.S., not all states have the service available. Thankfully, KVUE confirms that those in Texas will be able to use Tipsy Tow this year as a last resort to stay safe on New Year’s Eve.
