Homes in Austin, Texas, have been featured in a variety of ways: online, in magazines, and on popular television shows. But when the homes of local stars are featured, people tend to tune in more. For a variety of reasons (we like them as a person, we love their shows or music, or we can’t believe how jaw-droppingly gorgeous their homes would be until we see them for ourselves), we can’t stop watching. That’s why we were excited to see that the “Open Door” video series by “Architectural Digest” had recently featured the Hill Country home of actor and craft brewery owner Jensen Ackles and his wife Danneel.

Providing viewers with “an exclusive, in-depth, look at some of our favorite celebrity homes,” season one of the series features 19 episodes. With the homes of such stars as Terry Crews, designer Michael Kors, and actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, it’s a veritable compendium of “who’s who” in the house/home design and décor world. The Ackles’ home in Austin is, of course, no exception. Originally not on the market (they drove by and thought they’d make the owners an offer), the home features a sunken living room, a gorgeous bar area, and a beautiful screened porch looking out over the lake in their backyard. With three children, it’s also a wonderfully functional home which is “lived-in” – something fans who are sitting at home watching this video in their pajamas, in a room they’ve rented from their retired uncle, trying to keep Cheetos crumbs from falling into their keyboard, can appreciate (LOL!).

The home of “Supernatural” star and Texas Hill Country craft brewery owner Jensen Ackles and his family is something we can all aspire to, believe it or not. The home of the actor and entrepreneur emanates an urban-country charm that one would imagine he and his wife would have. The pair is synonymous locally with Family Business Beer Company, a destination brewery in Dripping Springs, and as such, they’ve been featured for their great taste in brews. Likewise, their great taste in home design and furnishings, as well as function, endears them to their fans even more. The (roughly) 12-minute video tour of their home, guided by the couple themselves, is a refreshing look at luxury that isn’t pretentious and classic style which lends itself nicely to raising a family in the Texas Hill Country.
