At the risk of stating the obvious, there are many things that Texans are passionate about – too many to name here. But, two things that top the list are barbecue and a fierce allegiance toward H-E-B. The thing that you hear, time and time again, when people move away from Texas is that they miss good, Texas barbecue and H-E-B the most. Both are staples of life in Texas and both have a rich history here. That’s why it seems so appropriate that H-E-B now has honest-to-goodness barbeque restaurants located inside some of their stores.

The perfect marriage of convenience and deliciousness, H-E-B began rolling out this new barbeque-concept restaurant in stores last fall. The model must be working because more and more H-E-B stores across the state are opening a True Texas BBQ storefront right and left.

Opens Friday, August 11, 2017

The most recent to open in the Hill Country is the True Texas BBQ inside of the H-E-B located in San Antonio at Loop 1604 and Bulverde Rd. It is slated to open on Friday, August 11. As soon as you spot True Texas BBQ, you’re greeted with a totally Texas facade and the aroma of smoked meats. The restaurant also includes a drive-thru window, which is a first for H-E-B. None of the company’s other in-store restaurants offer that service.

True Texas BBQ serves breakfast from 6 a.m. until 11 a.m. and remains open until 9 p.m. An already-popular item on their breakfast menu is the breakfast taco with the addition of “burnt ends” cut off of brisket. The barbecue at True Texas BBQ is smoked with Texas oak wood for up to 14 hours. They offer barbecue by the plate or pound, plus delicious sides like brisket beans, creamed corn, potato salad, and coleslaw.

You can also order online to feed a crowd or pick up something quick on your way home for dinner. Most locations feature locally brewed, craft beer that complements nicely the smoked meats. H-E-B has seven True Texas BBQ locations across the state. Visit their website to find one near you.
