Try All 6 Texas BBQ Spots on This 50 Best Barbecue Joints List

Popular publication Garden & Gun put together a list of the 50 best barbecue joints below the Mason-Dixon line, but did they miss any Texas institutions?

These spots, ranging from Alabama to Washington, D.C., are, according to Garden & Gun, “worth any serious barbecue lover’s time.” Their Texan selections are a diverse, and yet still traditional, grouping of barbecue joints across the state.

In alphabetical order, they list Franklin Barbecue, Kreuz Market, La Barbecue, Pecan Lodge, Snow’s BBQ, and Vera’s Backyard Bar-B-Que as the must-visit barbecue joints in Texas. This list seems fair, and is appropriately spread out over the the state.

It’s awesome to see Kreuz listed – typically Franklin outshines most Hill Country barbecue shops in national rankings just because of the shenanigans that go on in the line. However, Kreuz, as part of the Lockhart BBQ capital of the world line-up, kicks it old school “with no forks, sauce, or plates.”

That is arguably how all barbecue joints should be run, but that’s neither here nor there. Do you think Garden & Gun got it right when it comes to Texas BBQ? Are there any out-of-state places you’d like to visit just to see how they compare?
