Although the movie that outlined the story of Tejano singing sensation Selena has made its way to the big screen (and into our hearts), the legend of her musical legacy will soon be inspiring many more fans as a small-screen project. The ABC television network has recently committed to a “…music-driven scripted family drama” which takes its inspiration from the life of Selena Quintanilla. The project, which has the support of her family, has since been granted a pilot.

The network plans a “put pilot” commitment, which means that it is in agreement air the Selena program as a series or a special, while normally guaranteeing that the pilot will be picked up. SB Projects (owned by music manager Scooter Braun), Campanario entertainment, and ABC Studios will be working together to develop the currently untitled series, which has been identified to focus “…on Alex Guerra, a chart-topping, award-winning pop star who has been estranged from her family for five years. She tries to pick up the pieces when a crisis forces her to return home. Alex finds herself back in Texas, juggling a love triangle, the demands of her career and the dark secrets of the family that she now desperately wants to win back.”

In a statement regarding the project, Braun recently identified, “We are proud to be collaborators on an incredibly timely show that focuses on a strong Latino family and represents the many Americans who we know will enjoy this series alongside us.” Miquel Nolla has been identified as the project’s writer and co-executive producer, having similar experience with “Scandal,” the U.S. political thriller TV series. Suzette Quintanilla Arriaga and Abraham Quintanilla, Jr. have also been recognized as project producers.
