In the midst of the rant that 2016 was such an awful year in general and that bad news abounded, there were some shining lights in the social media world. In particular, a Twitter post went viral after the world saw the loving kindness of an elderly married couple. The “tweet” made followers swoon with delight.

True love is helping your wife do her hair following wrist surgery. When Amy Pennington posted pictures to Twitter showing her grandfather helping her grandmother do just that back in September, and the internet breathed a collective, “awwww.” The caption explained “My grandma had surgery on her wrist and couldn’t do her own hair so my grandpa did it for her. Cuteness overload.” Twitter fans followed suit with that insight and various online news sites picked up the story.

Twitter users were overwhelmed with “the feels” by this shining example of real, lasting love. The post has since received more than 200,000 likes and has been retweeted over 150,000 times! Add loving concern (as opposed to insult) to injury, Amy commented afterward, “My grandma would be so upset that she’s Twitter famous off a picture of herself in her robe with no makeup.” We’re not entirely sure that would be the case, however, if she understood just how heartwarming this seemingly “everyday” pose really was to people around the world.
