The news has seemed particularly heavy on the heart this month. On Monday, June 13th, two men drowned in two separate incidents along the east coast of Texas.

The first drowning occurred near San Luis Pass when a fisherman attempted to cross deep waters. The search party included the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office, Gulf Coast Rescue Squad, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and a local fishing expert. The victim, 29-year-old Dominic Vargas, was found dead underwater by a sonar. His family was at the scene.

The second victim went missing near the Matagorda jetties on Monday evening. Unable to find him during the night, the U.S. Coast Guard requested backup at first light from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The unidentified man in his late 20s was found by two fishermen the next morning on a beach six miles away from where his friends last saw him swimming.
