Joseph and Phillip Suarez, 12 and 14-year-old boys from Kingwood, Texas, had a late start to school last week that almost seemed meant to be. Because the boys were walking to school at a later time, they were able to hear when their 92-year-old neighbor cried out for help. The elderly woman was walking outside near her car when she blacked out and fell to the ground. When she woke up, she couldn’t get her phone to work, so she laid on the cement in pain for 20 minutes before she was able to call out. Thankfully, the Suarez boys came to her rescue.

They called the paramedics and stayed with their neighbor, comforting her, until they arrived. When the news asked where the boys got their sense of awareness and caring, they lovingly pointed out that their late father, Phillip Suarez Jr, was a metro police officer who passed away from cancer in May 2014. “I think he’d say ‘good job’,” they told the news.

This story serves as a reminder to everyone to pay attention to those who need extra care in your neighborhood. You never know when someone will need you to step up and be their hero, and eventually, we’ll all need a little help.
