Shockingly Ugly Home Listed on Zillow Has a Fascinating Story

An Avon, Connecticut home currently listed at $339,900 on Zillow immediately states “SERIOUS BUYERS ONLY PLEASE!” in its description. If someone were to only look at the list of amenities for the 5 bedroom, 4 bath, 2,949 square foot home, it wouldn’t seem like anything remarkable. But after scrolling through the photos, it’s easy to see why many people are calling this abode “ugly,” “appalling,” but also, “fascinating.”

Slate.com went behind the listing to find out how this home got so oddly embellished. They discovered that a Russian navel engineer named Nikolay Synkov came to America in the mid-90s with his wife and children, and they eventually settled down in Connecticut where they started remodeling their home. Synkov decided the house would be a visual manifestation of “paintings and writings of Wassily Kandinsky, the ideas of German philosopher Martin Heidegger, and Slavic migration, among other things.” His eccentric vision might not have been successful to many viewers, but the house still stands as a project filled with passion and DIY attitude.

It seems that no one has fallen in love with the home as is. It was once listed at a sky-high price of around $1.5 million. Since buyers feel that the home needs a complete remodel, its price has dropped significantly.
