United Airlines announced on Thursday that they will offer a direct flight from Houston, Texas to Sydney, Australia starting at the beginning of next year. As Houston Culture Map explains, the timing of the flight will be a bit confusing due to the fact that it’s a long flight and the time change is so drastic. “The daily nonstop flight departs George Bush Intercontinental Airport at 8 pm and lands in Sydney at 6:30 am, two days later. On the way back, passengers leave Sydney at 11:50 am and arrive in Houston at 10:35 am the same day,” they write. The One Mile at a Time blog says that the 8,596-mile flight will clock in at an incredibly lengthy “17hr30min westbound and 15hr45min eastbound.”

The Houston-to-Sydney trip will take place on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. According to Seat Guru, these aircraft are full of high-tech advancements including many options for in-flight entertainment and wi-fi. If you’re able to save up for a first class seat (called Polaris) you can lay down comfortably since the seats become a completely flat bed! There are 48 Polaris seats, 64 Economy Plus (which are larger and more comfortable seats), and 141 standard coach seats on the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
